Now that that’s out of the way, time to visit Variks at the Prison of Elders. In House of Wolves, there isn’t a 6 man raid like the Vault of Glass or Crota’s End. There is a 3 man fireteam that dives into waves of enemies completing objectives and earning sweet loot. If you love PvE, then you will really enjoy this game mode. Bungie introduced 8 new modifiers that are all included in the Prison:
- Small Arms - Primary weapon damage is favored
- Exposure - Shields are increased, but don’t regen
- Grounded - Take more damage while airborne
- Brawler - Guardian melee damage increased
- Catapault - Grenade recharge time is increased
- Trickle - Ability cooldowns are significantly reduced
- Specialist - Secondary weapon damage is favored
- Airborne - Deal more damage while airborne
I haven’t found any nasty or noticeable glitches in the Prison, although I hear that you can glitch down to the treasure room. The chests don’t spawn though, so it isn’t unfair by any means. The other one that I would like to point out, is that it will sometime teleport you randomly and not very often, and I am not sure why it does that. I don't think it's a glitch, just really annoying sometimes.
Okay, so you are done playing Prison of Elders, and you want to do some PvP. Go talk to Brother Vance about Trials of Osiris. This is an elimination style 3v3 crucible event that occurs over weekends from Friday to the next weekly reset.
If you really like an adrenaline rush, then Trials is your cup of tea. You and 2 of your friends go head to head against other prebuilt teams and fight for loot. You have a scorecard that keeps track of wins and losses. If you get 3 losses, you have to obtain another scorecard in order to try again. You can also purchase things to help you (i.e. Loss doesn’t count against you) with passage coins from Brother Vance.
The more you win, the better the loot. It is pretty self explanatory there. However, there is a new social area that you can get to if you win 9 games flawlessly. From here you can go and get an exotic chest that has the first exoctic emblem. You can also get other really cool weapons.
With that said, there has been a few things that I dislike about Trials that I actually talk about in our first podcast on Geeks with Beards. Awhile ago, Bungie had a stream that showed off key elements of House of Wolves, Trials being one of them. They specifically stated that you would never play the same team two times in a row, and it will match you with the best connection possible.
I encountered both of those. Me and my fireteam lost a game of Trials, and the game right after that, we were matched with them again. Also, I feel losing (or winning, but who is going to complain about that?) against a team that literally jumps across the map because of lag is a little ridiculous.
Everything outside of that though, Trials is really fun, and frustrating. Everyone who said that Destiny was to PvE based.. I think Trails and Iron Banner, the only events ever, are PvP. So I hope that your PvP side of you is happy.
