The actual review of the movie is pretty simple; this is a great, fun, action-packed blockbuster of a film, and I will be seeing it again. As a matter of fact, I already have. Twice. Among the many things I loved about the movie, the characters are the reason to come and stay. Robert Downey Jr. is excellent as Iron Man, as he has been for the entire run. Captain was adorably annoying, Hulk had some great moments with Widow, we learned about Hawkeye's home life, and Thor was also great with the hammer lifting scene. Spader basically played the same character from the Blacklist, but it worked beautifully with his character and the riffs between the others. Vision was excellent as well, but came pretty late, though we just found out that he will be back for Captain America 3.
But that is not to say the film is not without faults. A few major things bugged me in the film, though I understand why they happened, my nerd rage cannot be contained. So without further ado, my bitch list.
Baron Strucker was chumped. He was made up to be a pretty big villain at the end of Captain America 2, and was delegated down to being opening cannon fodder, with zero lasting impact as a character.
Not enough Ultron and Vision. I get it. I do. But really, we couldn't have had a couple of scenes where we can flesh out more about these mainstays, or fully explain which of Vision's powers come from the fact that he is a cyborg made of vibranium, that he has an Infinity Stone integrated on his skull, and possibly because he brought to life with the help of Thor's lightning?
Black Widow was pretty downplayed in this movie, which I personally think was a bit of a waste. I did like the Widow+Hulk thing, and I get that Scarlet was pregnant, and basically every scene with her had to be shot quickly and out of order, and some revisions had to be made to the script, and subsequently the movie. Still bummed though. Oh, and the whole can't have kids thing is legit. Actually stayed true to the source material on this one, and I think it helps humanize the character, so yeah, not getting into that can of worms.
Thanos being a moron. Let's just make sure we all understand. In the first Avengers movie, he gave Loki a staff with immense power to help conquer Earth, and secure the Tesseract, one of the Infinty Stones. He did this so that he could have an artifact of power strong enough that he could start destroying the universe and securing the other Stones. To recap, he GAVE Loki, the god of TRICKERY, an INFINITY STONE, to go get another INFINITY STONE. Really? I know it's easy to go, well, maybe he just didn't know that he had one already. REALLY? A STAFF THAT CAN CONTROL MINDS, YEAH THAT COULDN'T BE THE MIND STONE. Come on Thanos, get your shit together.
